While the severity of the crime tends to match the severity of your charge, other factors may also come into play. In the much-publicized college admissions case surrounding Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, many are guessing at the sentences each will face. For Huffman, several factors seem to indicate lighter sentencing than her counterpart. The former Desperate Housewives star entered a plea deal with the state Attorney General, which is sure to include reduced charges. Indeed, it was recently announced that Huffman would have an additional charge dropped against her, meaning she may face some time behind bars, but probably not much. Unfortunately for Loughlin, the signs are not nearly as auspicious. After allegedly paying a half-million to have her daughters accepted to USC, she refused the plea deal and was subsequently charged with an additional “conspiring to launder” charge. Combined, these charges could carry a hefty sentence, especially if the judge in charge of sentencing decides to make an example out of Loughlin.

With all the coverage this case is receiving, it’s easy to get caught up in the hype.
